SMHS Government College Organises Seminar on Single-Use Plastic

 

SAS Nagar (Mohali): The Eco Club of SMHS Government College, SAS Nagar (Mohali), in collaboration with the NSS Unit, organised a seminar on “Single-Use Plastic: Environmental Impact and Sustainable Alternatives” under the able guidance of Principal Smt. Jaspreet Kaur Bains.

The seminar was organised with the objective of creating awareness among students about the harmful effects of single-use plastic on the environment, biodiversity and human health, and to encourage them to adopt sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives.

The distinguished speakers were Dr. N. K. Jhigan, Secretary, Environment Society of India (ESI), Chandigarh, and Dr. Ravinder Nath, Treasurer, Environment Society of India (ESI), Chandigarh. The speakers elaborated on the growing problem of plastic pollution and highlighted the importance of reducing plastic consumption, promoting reuse and adopting environmentally responsible practices.

The programme was convened by Prof. Sarabjeet Kaur, Department of Zoology, along with Prof Rudresh , Prof. Shalu and Prof. Ashish Kumar Bajpai, NSS Programme Officer, SMHS Government College, SAS Nagar (Mohali).

Around 100 NSS volunteers and students participated enthusiastically in the programme. The interactive session helped students understand their role in protecting the environment and encouraged them to make conscious choices towards reducing single-use plastic in their daily lives.

The programme concluded with a message to the students to become responsible environmental ambassadors and actively contribute towards building a cleaner, greener and sustainable society.
