Paras Health, Panchkula Urges Precaution and Early Medical Attention Amid Rising Dengue Cases

Panchkula, 29 August 2024 :

Dengue cases are on the rise in Panchkula, with over 90 cases reported in government and private hospitals across the district. The majority of these cases, approximately 70, have been identified in the Surajpur area of Pinjore and urban regions of Panchkula city, according to news reports. As this trend continues, Paras Health Panchkula is also experiencing a significant increase in patients presenting with dengue symptoms. The multispecialty hospital has advised the public, in general, to take precautionary measures to prevent the disease.
Dr Vinay Verma, Director, Internal Medicine at Paras Health Panchkula, stated, “We have observed a steady rise in dengue cases, particularly from the Surajpur area and urban parts of Panchkula. On average, we are treating over 100 new patients with dengue symptoms each day. While many of these cases are in the early stages, we are also seeing patients with severe symptoms that require close monitoring and, in some instances, hospitalization. We strongly advise the community to take preventive measures and seek immediate medical care if symptoms arise.”
Dengue fever is a systemic viral illness with a wide spectrum of symptoms, ranging from mild to severe. The incubation period typically lasts 5 to 7 days, with abrupt onset of the illness. Common symptoms include high-grade fever, headache, retro-orbital pain, muscle and joint pain, nausea, vomiting, and rash. These symptoms usually persist for 2 to 7 days, and the disease progresses through three phases: febrile, critical, and recovery.
Managing dengue fever primarily involves symptomatic and supportive care. Bed rest is crucial during the acute phase, with cold or tepid sponging recommended to maintain body temperature below 38.5°C. Paracetamol is advised for reducing fever and alleviating body aches, and patients should ensure they stay well-hydrated by consuming fluids such as fruit juices, coconut water, rice water, barley water, and oral rehydration solutions. It is advisable to avoid carbonated drinks and sugary beverages.
Dr Vinay Verma, Director, Internal Medicine Paras Health Panchkula highlighted the importance of recognizing warning signs that could indicate severe dengue, including bleeding, persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, and breathing difficulties. “Monitoring for these symptoms is especially critical during the defervescence phase when fever subsides. Increased capillary permeability during this phase can lead to severe complications, particularly in secondary dengue infections. Immediate medical attention is crucial if any of these warning signs are present,” he added.

Paras Health Panchkula has established specific criteria for hospitalization, including the presence of warning signs, hypotension, persistent high-grade fever, and organ impairment. Patients unable to tolerate oral fluids or showing signs of dehydration, such as dizziness or postural hypotension, may also require admission.
To curb the spread of dengue, the hospital urges the community to eliminate mosquito breeding sites in and around their homes. Preventive measures include regular inspections of areas where water can accumulate, such as flowerpots, containers, and drains. Additionally, using mosquito repellents, wearing long-sleeved clothing, and ensuring windows and doors are screened can significantly reduce the risk of mosquito bites.
With the increasing number of dengue cases, particularly in high-risk areas like Surajpur and urban Panchkula, Paras Health Panchkula remains committed to providing comprehensive care and guidance to safeguard the health of the community. Early detection and prompt treatment are essential for effective management of this disease. For any concerns or symptoms, individuals are encouraged to visit the hospital or contact their healthcare provider immediately.
